The paper describes several original solutions to increase the in-built “intelligence” of a telecare system increasing the usability of the telecare system, reducing the burden of the monitoring and medical personnel and increasing the quality of care is the main beneficiary. One solution is using a warning component implemented at the server- and locally. It is presented the need of alarms (as logical...
This article describes our work in progress and deals with methods and approaches for handling internal complexity emerging in highly realistic models of human behaviour. We present a new modelling approach to human decision making along with a conceptual design of several methods targeting selected aspects of complexity, such as the combinatorial explosion of action alternatives in rich environments,...
The following topics are dealt with: applied computational intelligence and informatics; image processing; process control; wireless sensor networks; software engineering; computer aided instruction; microcontrollers; power plants; and bioinformatics.
The goal of tissue engineering is to create functional tissue constructs that can be implanted into the human organism. A classical approach to tissue engineering consists in the culturing of cells on porous scaffolds made of biocompatible and biodegradable materials. An important step in this approach is the cell seeding of scaffolds. It has been shown that uniform seeding leads to faster development...
In this paper a new low cost angle generator intended for the calibration of autocollimators is presented. After describing the working principle of the autocollimator, the calibration procedure is outlined. It is comparison based, where the small angles are derived from relatively large displacements. Following the presentation of the operation of the small angle generator, the various error sources...
The paper presents a study for determination the optimal control law for a small horizontal axis windgenerator. Experimentally, using a mixed physical-analog laboratory model, were determined the state variables, corresponding to different wind speed values, for the optimum regimes of the wind turbine, based on the turbine theoretical estimated mathematical model. From a large multitude of possible...
Based on the mathematical model of the wind turbine at a wind speed modeled as a sin wave in time, this paper analyses the behavior of the system with P, PI and PID regulators. We determine the speed at which the system must work in order to obtain a maximum amount of electricity in a time interval of hours and days. For this purpose, we measure the wind speed and knowing the mechanical characteristic...
This paper presents the implementation method for two signal processing structures, a digital FIR filter and a discrete Fourier transform, using programmable logic structures and VHDL hardware description language.
The transmission network represents undoubtedly the infrastructure that enables the power market. The deregulated environment operating conditions are leading to new challenges for the power system (congestions). Taking into consideration these facts, new tools and methodologies are necessary to be developed, according to the actual conditions. For the beginning, within the paper, the congestion management...
In this paper we present the initial experimental results that we obtained with deploying our distributed agent-based system for Ant Colony Optimization (ACODA) on a computer cluster. The novelty of ACODA consists in agent-based modeling and distribution of the problem environment that is explored by the ants to determine an optimal solution. The effect of this approach is that ants' migration is...
Aggregate traffic in high speed networks is characterized by “burst within burst” structure over a wide range of time scales, heavy tailed inter-arrival time densities, self-similarity and long range dependence. These properties are followed by a degradation of quality of service in aggregate traffic. A high self-similarity grade will eventually fill up the network equipments memory and queues no...
Workflow effectively supports the design and management of work processes. This paper deals with such type workflows that enable the support of administrative type work processes. In this framework the focus is on the method of visualization and simulation of p-graph based automatically generated workflows. This paper aims to conceptualize such a tool that enables the examination, the analysis of...
This work is presenting a study performed towards the web programming on integrated system, emphasizing the facilities offered by the SAP integrated system's environment. Because the architecture of the SAP NetWeaver Application Server system is a three-tier architecture, it's possible to develop web business applications of ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming) and/or Java type. The web...
Main objective of this paper is to present the idea of semantic structures to support IT Service Management processes. Utilizing the principles of Semantic Web and knowledge technologies with the standardized IT service management processes can provide a framework for designing and maintaining interoperable service-based applications. In presented paper we describe the conceptual framework for developing...
This paper proposes new optimization algorithms for the optimal tuning of PI controllers dedicated to a class of second-order processes with integral component and variable parameters. The sensitivity analysis with respect to the parametric variations of the controlled process leads to the sensitivity models. The augmentation of the output sensitivity functions over the integral of absolute error...
Many modern embedded applications need the execution support of a real-time operating system. Such applications have usually critical or hard timing requirements, but giving the high presence of multimedia devices, real-time operating systems can also be used to manage the tasks that execute within multimedia devices. This paper focuses on identifying the requirements of a real-time operating system...
Rule base optimization is a key step in fuzzy model identification that determines the performance of the fuzzy system. In this paper, we examine two optimization solutions, i.e. the cross-entropy method and a hill climbing approach based heuristic method. They are used and compared in case of four benchmarking problems. In each case the initial rule base is created by a fuzzy clustering based method.
