In this paper, a novel intra prediction algorithm, named enhanced line-based intra prediction (ELIP), is proposed to improve the traditional intra prediction methods for image/intra-frame coding. Different from the existing schemes where the interpolation filtering only depends on the intra prediction mode, in the proposed ELIP, the linear filtering coefficients are further refined by imposing both...
Openings constitute one of the fundamental operators in mathematical morphology. They can be applied to a wide range of applications, including noise reduction and feature extraction and enhancement. In this paper, we introduce a new, efficient and adaptable algorithm to compute one dimensional openings along discrete lines, in arbitrary orientation. The complexity of this algorithm is linear with...
Digital Radiography is a filmless radiographic image that has been introduced to replace conventional film. It is one of the nondestructive techniques (NDT) that is used to indicate the internal condition of the sample being inspected. It is also an efficient technique in defect detection. Weld defect is any flaws that compromise the usefulness of finished weld specimen. The segmentation of weld defect...
In this paper, a low-complexity motion-based saliency map estimation method for perceptual video coding is proposed. The method employs a camera motion compensated vector map computed by means of a hierarchical motion estimation (HME) procedure and a Restricted Affine Transformation (RAT)-based modeling of the camera motion. To allow for a computationally efficient solution, the number of layers of...
In this work, we propose a hybrid big skin regions detection approach for adult image identification which is composed of color filtering, texture filtering and geometry filtering three parts. A subsection processing skin color model is employed to filtering the non-skin color pixels, and then a coarse degree based texture filtering is used to filter the pixels with rough texture and skin color tone,...
This paper suggests an improved segmentation of remote sensing images based on watershed algorithm to reduce the over-segmentation of the watershed transform. Taking into the characteristics of remote sensing, remote sensing images were filtered using a fast peer group filtering (PGF). Then do watershed transform on the multi-scale morphological gradient image and merge regions by grey similarity...
Ultrasound has shown a great potential for serving as an outcome measure for localized scleroderma. High spatial resolution of ultrasound will aid to evaluate Echogenicity, Vascularity index and tissue thickness of localized scleroderma. Echogenicity is higher when the ultrasound waves reflected are lesser in value from any particular body organ. Vascularity index can be defined as the differences...
A new adaptive weight algorithm is developed for the removal of salt and pepper noise. It consists of two major steps, first to detect noise pixels according to the correlations between image pixels, then use different methods based on the various noise levels. For the low noise level, neighborhood signal pixels mean method is adopted to remove the noise, and for the high noise level, an adaptive...
Digital watermarking is an effective and popular technique for discouraging illegal copying and distribution of copyrighted digital image information, which in turn provides an alternative solution for image authentication. This paper proposes an innovative watermarking scheme in which some pixels are randomly selected from original image, so that all of them have a valid 3 × 3 neighborhoods. A binary...
Machine vision has provided great convenience for manufacturing quality inspection. To facilitate on-line capsule inspection base on machine vision, in this paper, a capsule image acquisition system and pre-processing techniques are proposed. Capsule has a cylindrical surface, let it pure rolling on a flat surface, then image it several times during its rolling can make its surface fully visible....
We present a framework for cell tracking in a highly cluttered environment in live cell imaging from mouse brain cortex. Our goal is to track cells over a long period of time for intracellular calciumion concentration in order to detect important cellular events such as neural activity and cell division. Since traditional object tracking approach such as segmentation followed by tracking is not applicable...
In this paper, we present an adaptive sharpening filter for a pre-processing to improve the subjective quality and the performance of H.264/AVC compression. We use quantization step size and pixel variance to select sharpening filter strength. The simulation results show that the proposed pre-processing filtering process improves the subjective quality and reduces bit rate about 0.85%(CIF) and 1.46%(1080p).
This paper addresses the evaluation of motion compensated inverse filtering (MCIF) for LCD motion de-blurring. Using a novel analysis method, it can be shown that MCIF improves motion portrayal by a factor of almost two.
The hand jitter usually has a negative effect on recorded video, but combined with intentional camera motion, it forms a unique global motion pattern intrinsic to the video sequence. Therefore a useful application that involves hand jitter would be to identify videos taken by hand-held devices by extracting and matching a compact descriptor entirely based on global motion. We confirm this idea via...
In this paper, we propose a content-aware noise reduction (NR) method for the Digital TV, which preserves image textures and edges. In the proposed method, noise is first reduced by a temporal recursive NR filter and then further suppressed by a spatial NR filter. To preserve the image texture, the saliency map which accurately represents edges in a noisy image is employed in the spatial filter. Experimental...
This paper presents an algorithm for localization and classification of subtitles in TV videos. We extend an existing static-region detector with object-based adaptive filtering and binary classification of subtitle bounding boxes, using geometry and text-stroke alignment features. Compared to this static-region detector, we reduce the number of falsely detected subtitle pixels by a factor of 20,...
A classification-based trained motion adaptive temporal filtering scheme was proposed. The proposed method calculates class code and assigns optimal temporal filter coefficients based on pixel-wise temporal movement. The proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control concept was newly applied to enhance classifier. The proposed method involves integral and derivative terms of temporal movement as...
In this paper, a novel approach is proposed for unsupervised change detection of multitemporal remote sensing images. The proposed method is able to produce the change detection result on the difference image without a priori assumptions .Firstly, the difference image which is acquired from multitemporal images. Mean shift algorithm is used to reduce noise of difference image and fake change. Then...
This paper presents a new face detection approach which is capable of detecting human faces from complex backgrounds. A new skin color modeling process is applied to the face segmentation process. Image enhancement is then used to improve the features of face candidates before feeding to the face object classifier which is based on a modified Hausdorff distance. The overall performance of the face...
This paper presents an adaptive background update method for waves extraction based on the physical properties of tide. Most of the previous background subtraction methods based on analysis of regional connectivity detect a wave period using a static background templates or a feature set of moving objects. However, random wave in such tide videos are not extracted well. In this paper, we assume that...
