A low complexity image registration based on integral projections is proposed. The scaling factor estimation involves resampling operations on one image integral projection vector. The rotation estimation use only convolutions with a variable length vector. It is shown that the proposed approach provides a promising alternative to more complex registration methods.
This paper deals with problem of analysis of traffic data. A traffic network has several types of roads: historical centre, peripherals, arterial roads, etc. They have specific properties. For a traffic analysis, large amounts of data are needed. Some traffic data are difficult to obtain due to their rare occurrence. Typical example is the investigation of traffic accidents. In these cases, data from...
Indoor localization is an important primitive that can enable many ubiquitous computing applications. This paper improves the scheme of landmark and inertial navigation to address reliable and accurate indoor localization. We use the iBeacon as the landmark. To optimize the inertial navigation, we integrate exploit the calibration function of the iBeacon for step length and heading estimation. For...
The additional information approaches, multiple image approaches and the single-image approaches are some of the techniques present for the removal of the haze. The first two methods are expensive one and has high computational complexity. Recently single image approach is used for this de-hazing process because of its flexibility and low cost. Bi-orthogonal wavelet transform is used to obtain the...
Many Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) applications require the vehicle's location information to be available at anytime and anywhere within the network. Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication allows the exchange of mobility data, which includes position, speed and heading information, that can be used for location estimation. However, if the exchanged mobility data contains invalid or wrong information,...
Detection of moving and foreground objects is a key step in video-based object tracking within computer vision applications such as surveillance and traffic monitoring. Foreground object detection and segmentation is usually performed based on appearance. Hence, significant detection errors can be incurred due to shadows and light sources. Most existing shadow detection algorithms exploit a large...
Fuel consumption is an important factor in the route search for vehicular navigations. In this paper, we propose a personalized eco-friendly route search method that considers the driver's driving style, road traffic, geographic information and vehicular parameters. Firstly, we classify the driving styles into three categories (calm, normal and aggressive) by adopting a Learning Vector Quantization...
Proliferation of internet technologies has changed the way content is created and exchanged through the Internet, prompting expansion of online networking applications and administrations. Online networking empower creation and exchanged the clients produced content and design of a scope of Internet-based applications. This development is fueled by more administrations as well as by the rate of their...
The increasing demand for urban mobility calls for a robust real-time traffic monitoring system. In this paper we present a vision-based approach for road traffic density estimation which forms the fundamental building block of traffic monitoring systems. Existing techniques based on vehicle counting and tracking suffer from low accuracy due to sensitivity to illumination changes, occlusions, congestions...
Efficient mobility is a key aspect for the future smart cities. The real-time optimization of vehicular and public transportation flows to reduce traffic congestions, costs and emissions is the real added value for smart cities. In this paper, we describe a novel use of big data coming from the cellular network of the Vodafone Italy Telco operator to compute mobility patterns for smart cities. These...
Fog is a natural and meteorological phenomenon that seems to be very dangerous for road driving. In its presence, the driver has a high perturbation in his field of view and must redouble vigilance. Therefore, it's primary to detect its presence to be able to adapt any advanced driver assistance system according to the density of fog. In this paper, we present a new local approach for detecting daytime...
Consider a single camera mounted on the inside of a vehicle's windscreen used for detecting potholes and other obstacles on the road surface. This paper outlines three approaches to the depth estimation problem of determining the distance to these obstacles in the range of 5 m to 30 m. We provide an empirical evaluation of the accuracy of these approaches under various conditions, and make recommendations...
In line with the advent of the Knowledge Age, logistic companies are harnessing the power of knowledge derived from raw data to perform Just-In-Time (JIT) delivery. However, the uncertainty involved in the estimation of future travel time and a lack of benchmarks designed with travel time as primary cost in mind hamper development towards an optimal logistics planning system. Given limitations on...
One major challenge of relying on Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC)-equipped vehicles for high precision cooperative localization is related to the high computational complexity and heavy communication loads of exhaustively considering links to all neighbors regardless of their quality. This paper addresses the problem of selecting the best subset of links to spatial neighbors, considering...
Traffic density estimation plays an integral role in intelligent transportation systems (ITS), using which provides important information for signal control and effective traffic management. In this paper, we present a new framework for traffic density estimation based on topic model, which is an unsupervised model. This framework uses a set of visual features without any need to individual vehicle...
In this paper, we introduce a metropolitan traffic simulation with microscopic vehicle agents with approximated behavior near intersections. We simulate a metropolitan traffic flow for Tokyo and surrounding four prefectures with fine-grained traffic demand obtained from Tokyo Person Trip survey. Though this simulator has an ability to manage signal control, it is difficult to obtain the real signal...
Region of interest (ROI) generation used to extract candidate windows which are likely to have pedestrians is an important step in pedestrian detection systems. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm to reduce the number of candidate windows extracted as ROI to reduce the computation time of pedestrian detection. In our proposed method, we take advantage of the temporal correlation between the...
This paper presents a novel method for traffic sign detection and visibility evaluation from mobile Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) point clouds and the corresponding images. Our algorithm involves two steps. Firstly, a detection algorithm based on high retro-reflectivity of the traffic sign from the MLS point clouds is designed for sign detection in complicated road scenes. To solve the spatial...
This paper presents a comprehensive solution for implementing a processing module on traffic cameras that is capable of tracking every vehicle in the camera frame and estimating its speed in real-time. A hybrid framework for multiple vehicle tracking is employed that utilizes Kalman filter and Hungarian Algorithm to resolve occlusions. A speed estimation methodology is described that is robust enough...
It is hard for people to estimate the trip fare withthe dynamic traffic conditions and routing changes in a bigcity. In this paper, a comprehensive trip fare estimation study isconducted, which is based on taxi routing behaviors and localizingtraces. First, we build a model to investigate taxi drivers' routing behaviors. Based on this model, we are able to analyze driverincome patterns. Second, we...
