Closed form formulae are derived analytically to study self-Phase modulation (SPM) and cross-Phase modulation (XPM) induced crosstalk for differential phase shift keying signals in multi-pumped Distributed Raman amplifier. The formulae are applied to study the sensitivity of XPM and SPM with respect to bit rate and pulse shape prevalent in optical transmission system. Performance of DPSK signal for...
We demonstrate an all-optical OTDM de-multiplexer with in-built phase-tracking capability using four-wave mixing and cross phase modulation in a single fiber device. Error-free performance was attained at 640 Gb/s even in the presence of a rapid temporal drift.
We report on an experimental study that focus on the cross phase modulation (XPM) and self-phase modulation (SPM) effects upon the transmission performance of 10 Gb/s-based long-haul return-to-zero differential phase-shift keying system, using the block-type dispersion map. Experimental results show that for the channel at the system zero dispersion wavelength SPM causes a larger degradation as compared...
In optical fiber communication systems using wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technique, two important nonlinear effects, i.e. self-phase modulation (SPM) and cross-phase modulation (XPM), occur due to the dependence of refractive index to the light intensity. In this study, system parameters effecting SPM and XPM events in WDM communication systems are analyzed. In simulations, the efficiency...
This paper describes recent progress in measuring single mode optical fiber nonlinear coefficient. A brief description of interferometric and noninterferometric techniques is included as a basis for comparing their relative performance and limitations. All of reviewed measurement techniques use one of the Kerr-related phenomena which are self-phase modulation, modulation instability, cross-phase modulation...
This paper presents a systematic study on the effectiveness of mid-nonlinearity temporal inversion (MNTI) technique in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems. In WDM systems dispersion slope has a strong impact because it partly affects the efficacy of self-phase modulation (SPM) compensation, and in addition it causes a different shift of the optimum optical phase conjugator (OPC) position...
It was found that the sinusoidally modulated signal based on SPM (SM-SPM) method was about 1% more accurate than CW-SPM method. Empirical equation between (n2/Aeff) and Aeff various optical fibers is proposed.
Increase in the data rate of fiber optic communication system is limited due to the nonlinear effects like self phase modulation (SPM) cross phase modulation (CPM) four wave mixing (FWM), stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) and stimulated Brillion scattering (SBS). Many investigations are carried to mitigate these effects and in multi channel systems, four-wave mixing (FWM) in optical fibers induces...
We derive a method for evaluating the distribution of the phase noise in phase and differential phase modulated systems. The method considers both SPM and XPM induced phase noise and accounts for fiber dispersion. The noise distribution can be used to estimate arbitrarily small bit-error rates for PSK and DPSK systems. The theoretical analysis agrees with Monte Carlo simulations of WDM systems.
