The corrosion properties of micro- and nanocrystalline Co and Co–1.1wt% P alloys were studied in deaerated 0.1M H 2 SO 4 solution using open-circuit potential measurement, polarization tests, ac impedance measurements and XPS. The potentiodynamic polarization tests revealed that all samples exhibited active anodic dissolution without a distinct transition to passivation up to −0.1...
The corrosion behaviour of polycrystalline (grain size: 8 μm) and nanocrystalline (grain size: 12 nm) Co was studied in 0.25 M Na 2 SO 4 solution. It is shown that grain size reduction has little effect on the overall corrosion performance of Co. The role of S impurities in nanocrystalline Co is also discussed.
