GPU for high performance computing shows high current consumption and fast current variation which presents a big design challenge for power delivery. In this paper, power delivery design for a computing GPU is discussed focusing on package capacitors. Current behaviour of a computing application is illustrated first. The related power delivery challenge is presented with simulation and measurement...
In this paper a noise model for phototransistors is presented. Noise measurements and Gummel measurements on four different phototransistors were performed to verify the noise model. In addition, the output noise current density was modeled and compared with the measurements. A maximum difference of less than 12 % is noticed.
Radiated Emission non-compliance at vehicle-level is an EMC challenge for supplier design engineers and ultimately for automotive OEM validation team. However, infrequently an undesirable situation may result due to the complexity of RF Interference environment of modern vehicles. The vehicle level radiated emission compliance validation is extremely complex and costly and not suitable for troubleshooting...
The smart grid poses great concern about the exposure of consumers' privacy as the fine-grained measurements in the smart metering system can expose consumer's privacy through the disclosure of accurate load profiles of home energy usage. To address this issue, in this paper we propose novel scaling perturbation based privacy-preserving schemes that can achieve great utility for fine-grained measurements...
The altitude information is very important for the safety of aircraft. Among many types of modulation, the Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) was the most common used in radar altimeter. Although classical Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method has been successfully used in short range measurement for Radar Altimeter [1], the problem of altitude estimation in long distance for Radar Altimeter...
From the last decade, Nitride-based High Electron Mobility Transistors (HEMTs) have demonstrated excellent electrical and noise performances to address transceivers modules. Within this paper, a discussion on the low frequency noise on the gate access (i.e. gate current spectral density SIG) in the frequency range of 1Hz–100kHz is presented. SIG spectra reveal different signatures according to the...
The low-frequency fluctuations of tunneling current in GaAs/AlAs/GaAs single-barrier heterostructure devices were measured for three samples with different Si-planar-doping in the center of 10.2 nm-thick barrier. The diameter of the mesas were close to 100 micrometers. Upon changes of the biasing voltage across the barrier the character of noise spectra also changed — depending on various electron...
The conductivity and low frequency noise of n-and p-type Si nanowire arrays are measured in humid and dry environments. It was found that the conductivity increases for both n- and p-type arrays in a humid environment. The low frequency noise characteristics indicate a change in the carrier transport process from noise governed by trapping processes at the interface in a humid environment to noise...
Organic light emitting diodes (OLED), either based on polymers or small molecules, suffer from early failure: an unpredictable sudden increase in current with a total loss of light output. This work addresses this problem using small-signal impedance measurements and electrical noise techniques. Robust OLEDs show a current noise spectrum proportional to 1/f. OLEDs susceptible to failure have 1/f3/2...
Performance prediction of underwater acoustic network protocols is difficult due to the variability of performance of individual links in the network. Link performance is usually a complex function of several environmental and modem parameters. To understand the network and link performance variability better, we deployed a 5-node network spanning an area of about 1 km2 in Singapore waters over the...
The paper concerns low-frequency properties of mid-wavelength infrared type-II InAs/GaSb superlattice nBn detector. The current noise was directly measured in the range of 1–104 Hz at 77 K and detectivity was determined in this frequency range and temperature. The common 1/f component found in the noise spectra was shown to originate from random processes occurring in surface imperfections that modulate...
Fluctuation Spectroscopy is a very informative method to study the dynamic behavior of the charge carriers and the kinetic processes in condensed matter. Investigation of noise properties is a powerful technique, especially when complemented with standard transport measurements based on average quantities. Various materials have been tested, ranging from Mn oxides, to novel superconductors, to carbon...
We present an experimental study on the performance of nano-Hall sensors made on the two dimensional electron gaz of a pseudo morphic GaAlAs/GaInAs heterostructures. The active area of the sensor is from sub-micronic scale (down to 500 nm) to 5 microns. Ohmic contacts have micronic size, and a reference sample of 80 micron width has been caracterized as well, as a reference. In our process, we have...
The qualification of a technology needs rigorous and numerous stress experiments to attest of a high level of reliability. Low frequency noise measurements are known as an effective characterization method for the evaluation of device reliability. This technique is usually applied on the drain current spectral density, but it is now largely accepted that the gate access is a major reliability indicator...
The measurement of low frequency noise can be considered as an important part in optimization of sensor noise-signal ratio. But sometimes, the intrinsic low frequency noise is affected by contact noise, which can be generated by geometrical defect of thin film. Thus, the measured noise level could not reveal material properties. We report different low frequency noise measurement methods in a general...
Technological imperfections and impurities, which are caused mainly by experimental preparation of the composite cold field-emission cathodes, prove itself most likely as a source of superfluous current and redundant noise. The noise spectrum densities of the emission current along with the main sources of noise were characterized in previous paper [1]. In this paper, it is dealt with the generation-recombination...
The aim of the paper is to evaluate the adequacy of noise spectroscopy to significantly improve the selectivity of microsensors compared to a conventional acquisition of the sensor resistance variation. Significant results of low frequency noise characterization of metal-oxide gas microsensors with WO3 sensitive thin film are presented. Using developed measurement system, noise spectra show a clear...
In this contribution we report on the influence of the electrolyte on transport properties of the silicon nanowire (NW) field effect transistor (FET) biosensor studied using noise spectroscopy. The results show that exposing the Si NW FET top and side surfaces to the electrolyte solution not only affects the threshold voltage, but also influences the charge state of the gate dielectric traps. NWs...
We present investigations of the noise behavior of InAs/GaSb superlattice infrared pin-photodiodes for the long-wavelength infrared regime at 8–12 μm. In diodes with an increased dark current compared to the generation-recombination limited bulk value, the standard shot-noise model fails to describe noise which we observe experimentally in the white part of the spectrum. Instead we find that McIntyre's...
Low frequency noise on six different types of CMOS PNP PIN phototransistors was investigated and is presented in this paper. The output noise spectral density is evaluated by a noise model for the investigated phototransistors. The current gain β and the most dominant shot noise terms including their values of each phototransistor are extracted. The presented phototransistors show a good noise performance.
