Mitral valve disruption is a rare but serious complication of MitraClip insertion. This review provides an update on surgical interventions following MitraClip failure, and discusses possible valve injuries and surgical approaches.
We reported the case of a 56‐year‐old male with tetralogy of Fallot associated with an aneurysm of the aortic root and severe aortic insufficiency. Repair of the aortic aneurysm along with a complete tetralogy repair was performed.
The purpose of this study was to present outcomes of bioprosthetic tricuspid valve replacement (TVR) in patients with tricuspid valve infective endocarditis (TVIE).
From October 2001 to December 2015, 26 patients underwent a bioprosthetic TVR due to severe TVIE after endocardial pacemaker implantation.
Staphylococcus species and Streptococcus species were the predominant...
This study was performed to investigate the pre‐existing histologic alterations at the time of complete repair in patients with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) and evaluate their effects on the early postoperative outcomes.
Fourteen patients, seven with acyanotic TOF (SO2 > 90, group I) and seven with cyanotic TOF (SO2 < 90, group II), undergoing complete repair, were enrolled...
Embolism to the central nervous system is a frequent and important complication of infective endocarditis. While early surgery improves outcomes in many groups of patients with infective endocarditis, ischemic stroke secondary to septic embolism carries the risk of hemorrhagic transformation and neurological deterioration with heparinization and cardiopulmonary bypass. We review the literature regarding...
The objective of this study is to demonstrate the applicability of virtual angioscopy (VA) in different forms of aortic disease where the diagnosis is unclear or uncertain. Five cases are presented where VA helped to establish a correct diagnosis and to choose the best surgical strategy by providing an intuitive image of the aorta.
We have modified the mitral repair technique in infants and small children by using autologous pericardial strips to treat mitral regurgitation resulting from a dilated mitral annulus. Our results demonstrate that this technique maintains stability and flexibility of the mitral annulus and decreases the risk of mitral stenosis.
Crisscross heart is a rare cardiac malformation characterized by crossing of the inflow streams of the two ventricles due to a twisting of the heart about its long axis. The developmental mechanisms and causes of crisscross heart remain unknown. Neonates present with cyanosis and a systolic murmur. In this study, we report a case of crisscross heart with situs inversus, concordant atrioventricular...
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is the standard of care for treating left main coronary lesions. However, recently published randomized controlled trials (RCT) have shown conflicting results. We sought to compare clinical outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug‐eluting stent placement to CABG using a meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials.
There are minimal circulatory support options for patients with a failing Fontan. The Heartmate II (HMII) left ventricular assist device (Thoratec, Bedford, MA) in its packaged state cannot augment caval/pulmonary arterial blood flow.
We hypothesized that a modified HMII pump could augment caval and pulmonary arterial blood flow.
A bifurcated ringed Gore‐Tex graft (W. L...
We present a case of aortic coarctation combined with ascending‐descending aorta dilatation and concomitant aortic valve regurgitation. The technique involved using endovascular stenting, a two‐stage balloon dilation procedure post‐stent implantation and a Bentall procedure.
