Schreiber's green lizards (Lacerta schreiberi) are endemic to the Iberian Peninsula, mostly restricted to riparian shrubs in mountain ranges and low temperate forests close to mountain slopes. The image shows a male from Valdesquí (Madrid). This population had a critical thermal maximum of 41.1 °C (CTmax), which would result in 697 annual hours per 25‐km2 grid cell in which this species would be inactive over its full distribution given prevailing climatic conditions. Individuals from Valdesquí have smaller body size, are exposed to colder climates and live in more open habitat than those from three additional study sites. Median and 90% interquartile ranges of CTmax were 41.7 [41.0, 42.1] °C across populations, giving rival species‐level estimates of restriction time from 596 to 715 anual hours per 25‐km2 grid cell.
