The aim is to describe the development and current state of magnetic resonance imaging in the field of medical diagnostics of the musculoskeletal system.
Of the primary, secondary and potential indications, only the primary indications are evaluated. The individual anatomical structures of all joints are analyzed, such as the meniscus and/or discus, ligamentous structures, articular cartilage, bone, and bone marrow, as well as tendon and muscle disorders.
High sensitivities and specificities lead to the primary indication for MRI in this spectrum not only being recognized scientifically but also being implemented in treatment.
In summary, MRI is believed to be the primary indication in the medical diagnostics of the musculoskeletal system in relation to many issues, especially those affecting the anatomical structures mentioned.
