In order to study the benefit of the flight-following system RescueTrack® in the admittance area of emergency rooms, a corresponding system, which had a separate monitor available 24 h/day in the trauma surgery emergency department, was set up in a regional trauma center in 2010. All times from the first communication by the crew of the helicopter or by the rescue coordination center through to the patient’s arrival in the trauma room were documented in 30 polytrauma patients. In view of the preparation time of the trauma room, a possible optimization potential was identified through the use of RescueTrack®. In fact, the average waiting time of the trauma team could as a result be significantly reduced.
