Wie der Überblick über den Forschungsstand zur militärischen Multinationalität zeigt, konzentrierten sich die bisherigen Projekte vornehmlich auf Einstellungen und gegenseitige Wahrnehmungen bei Soldaten verschiedener Nationen sowie auf technisch-organisatorische Fragen und Herausforderungen in gemischtnationalen Verbänden. Dagegen wurden die Kommunikations- und Interaktionsprozesse zwischen den Soldaten und zivilen Mitarbeitern in einem multinationalen Hauptquartier bislang noch keiner eingehenderen Analyse unterzogen. Dies liegt zum einen sicherlich daran, dass bislang nur eine Minderheit der bestehenden multinationalen Verbände nach dem Prinzip der vertieften Integration aufgebaut wurde, durch welches eine tägliche intensive Interaktion zwischen Angehörigen verschiedener Nationen in allen Funktionsbereichen notwendig wird. Zum anderen scheint es auch sinnvoll, zunächst die allgemeinen und grundsätzlichen Rahmenbedingungen von militärischer Multinationalität zu analysieren, bevor dann mit gezielten Fragen und Annahmen die konkrete Handlungsebene etwa eines Korpsstabes oder Hauptquartiers untersucht wird.
