SCOTLAND IN 1707 under the terms of Act of Union became integral part of Great Britain. This period lasted through three centuries. However, at the end of the 20th century in Scotland separatist circles started growing on, which in effect led to passing Scotland Act in 1997. As a result of devolution, power was partially transferred from a British Parliament to an inferior Scottish Parliament, created at the time. Finding causality between diverse political phenomena in British reality and separatist processes in Scotland was the purpose of this work. In author’s opinion, among the reasons of strengthening of Scottish separatist movement multiple factors should be mentioned: specific nature of unionism, crisis of unionism, popularization of Scottish affiliation, development of European Union, economic calculations, weakness of Scottish Conservative and Unionists Party, period of Thatcherism, changes of social cleavages and elite compromise’s breakdown.
