Acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) is a well-known issue in voice communication systems; it is used to reduce undesired echoes. Adaptive filtering is generally employed for AEC. However, the performances of adaptive filtering algorithms are limited for a correlated input signal. This paper presents the effect of an input signal decorrelation on the performances of adaptive filtering algorithms for AEC...
A compact ultra wideband (UWB) antenna with dual band-notched characteristics is proposed and investigated in this article. The antenna is composed of a V-shaped patch with a stair case defect fed by a 50 Ohm microstrip line and a semicircular defected ground plane printed, respectively, on the top and bottom layer of the substrate. The dual band-notch function at WiMAX (3.17–3.85 GHz) and ITU (7...
In this paper, a novel tri-band bandstop filter (BSF) based on hexagonal split ring resonators (H-SRRs) is presented. The proposed filter consists of a microstrip fed line loaded with three H-SRRS. Various modifications to the HSRR are made and their effects on the permittivity are discussed. The filter is fabricated and measured. Good agreement is obtained between numerical and experimental results.
This paper introduces a new design and optimization method of ultra wide band (UWB) printed antenna using a genetic algorithm (GA). The proposed antenna consists of a radiating patch element with an area divided into 2 mm square cells where each cell is allocated by either conducting or nonconducting property. The presented antenna is designed to operate from 2.4 GHz to 9.8 GHz. Numerical results...
The interests in Compressed Sensing (CS) come from its ability to provide sampling as well as compression, enhancement, along with encryption of the source information simultaneously. All these advantages have made CS, researched and applied in numerous speech-processing applications. In this paper, we compare ℓ1-minimization and Iteratively Reweighted Least Squares (IRLS)-ℓp-minimization algorithms...
This paper introduces a new system to identify handwritten signatures. For feature generation, we propose the Histogram of templates, while the Artificial Immune recognition System (AIRS) is used to achieve the identification task. A writer-independent strategy is proposed to train the AIRS to get an open system that can identify any new writer. Experiments are conducted on a benchmark dataset composed...
This paper presents the design of a super-twisting with a high-gain observer-based state and sensor faults estimations for a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). The proposed schemes transform the original system into two subsystems, the first subsystem includes the nominal plant where a high-gain observer is proposed for state estimation, whereas the second subsystem has only sensor faults where...
In medical field, deformable image registration is a critical task, it aims at deforming one image so that each point maps to a corresponding point in another image. The main component of deformable image registration is the similarity measure that is maximized during the optimization process. In this paper, we evaluate the effect of the choice of similarity measures for B-spline deformable registration...
The performance of the photovoltaic panel is significantly affected by various environmental factors, due to these changes there is little chance to operate the PV module at its maximum power point when using Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm. Hence, an intelligent controller is designed employing ANFIS which draws much energy and fast response. The current work proposes an artificial-intelligence...
This paper proposes a real time scalar control of induction motor by using RT-LAB software. This method of control leads to be able to adjust the speed of the motor by control the frequency and stator voltage magnitude, the ratio of stator voltage magnitude to frequency should be kept constant, which is called as scalar control of induction motor. The real-time scalar control algorithm is designed...
In this paper, we propose a new algorithm based on the combination of the well-known Kalman Filter (KF) and a Temporal Differencing (TD) method named the Q-learning technique. The purpose is to solve a single maneuvering target tracking problem. The algorithm consists of adapting the noise process of the Kalman filter when the target changes its mode using Q-learning based decision. After a comparison...
In this paper, a neural network based adaptive state feedback control scheme is proposed to solve the problem of trajectory tracking in the joint space for robotic manipulators with the presence of high uncertainty in the system parameters. First nonlinear behavior of the robot is approximately eliminated by applying a linearizing control, the closed loop dynamics is stabilized using static compensator...
Recent technological advances allowed the word to construct several wearable products that can capture and process the human body bio-signals. The PPG signal becomes one of the most contenders in heart rate monitoring due to their prominent features, flexibility, effectiveness and low costs. This paper present a novel System of PPG Heart rate calculation based on FPGA, using the Pan and Tompkins as...
This work is devoted to study the influence of the increasing of the width of the polluted band on insulators used in desert regions, by measuring the leakage current through the insulators surface. The Recurrent Plot technique (RP) is used to analyze the leakage current (LC) signal for monitoring the insulators surface state. This technique is applied directly on the leakage current waveforms, and...
In this paper, we propose a modified architecture of a Pi-Sigma Neural Network (PSNN) based on two modifications: extension of the activation function and adding delays to neurons in the hidden layer. These new networks are called respectively Activation Function Extended Pi-Sigma (AFEPS) and Delayed Pi-Sigma (DPS) are obtained first by adding an activation function to all hidden neurons and secondly...
The paper presents the natural extension DTC principle of three level diode clamped voltage inverter fed induction motor. This technique is based on a simple algorithm using look-up table for a three-level inverter established from a standard two-level inverter. The control algorithm is implemented using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) with VHDL coding.
In this work, we are interested by emulating metamaterial microwave waveguides which behave like conventional metallic ones. We use metamaterial layers based on two types of unit cells. The first one is a connected cross type unit cell which leads to a metamaterial with a near zero refraction index (n1 ≈ 0). The second one is a disconnected cross type unit cell which leads to a metamaterial with a...
In this work a new improved version of Teatching Learnning Based Optimization algorithm, TLBO, is proposed. The new strategy is obtained by tne inclusion of the Bat Algorithm, BA, random local search part in the optimization process with TLBO algorithm. The developped hybrid algorihm is applied jointly with 2D non-linear finite elment method to solv the Team workshop problem 25.
Manufacturing process performances become a key issue for reliability improvement. In order to decreasing loss of production due to machine stopping, to achieve this goal to maintain the equipments in operational condition, make products quickly, economically and with high quality. This requirement can be satisfied by implementing appropriate maintenance strategies, Condition based maintenance (CBM)...
The purpose of this paper is to design a fuzzy supervisory PID controller using an improved genetic algorithm. The fuzzy controllers are widely used in the recent years due to their results in both tracking and perturbation rejection, however the most difficult step in designing a fuzzy controller is the fuzzyficaion stage where we have to determine the rules and the shape of membership functions...
