We report on detection of terahertz radiation by using bilayer graphene-based FET with asymmetric grating gates. The device was fabricated with a stack of h-BN/Graphene/h-BN with a back gate as well as an asymmetric dual grating top gates. It was subjected to terahertz radiation at frequencies of 150 and 300 GHz at 4K and a clear photocurrent was obtained.
We have developed an ultrabroadband thermal light emitter based on carbon nanotube fibers driven either by continuous or pulsed current. Particularly, in pulsed mode, this emitter provides shorter and more intense pulses of terahertz radiation than conventional thermal emitters.
Characteristics of multi-tip field emitters with twolayer metal-fullerene coatings were calculated and experimentally investigated. Influence of surface morphology on their emission characteristics was determined. The experimental results showed that it was possible to obtain currents of up to 100 mA from the emitting area of about 0.25 cm2.
We present a novel approach for measuring aqueous solutions of biologically relevant components using a fully-integrated 0.53 THz near-field sensor implemented in 0.13 μm SiGe HBT technology. A successfully applied on-chip chopping technique resulting in a highly-improved signal-to-noise-ratio of up to 115 dB makes it possible to characterize the concentration level of lactose solved in de-ionized...
There is a high need for >2 THz room temperature direct-detectors/harmonic-mixers to characterize THz optical sources, phase lock THz-QCLs as LO sources for multi-pixel receivers, and realize absolute frequency calibration sources for applications in astrophysics, earth science, and remote sensing. Thus, we have developed a WM-52 (WR-0.22) harmonic mixer for the 3–5 THz operation. The design, fabrication...
Tapered THz coplanar waveguides (CPWs) formed from Co/Cu multilayers with embedded low-temperature-grown gallium arsenide photoconductive switches were designed in order to observe giant magnetoresistance (GMR). Pulsed THz radiation was excited using the switches, and was transmitted through both straight and tapered CPWs. GMR-induced changes in the transmitted THz pulse amplitude were demonstrated.
