Conformation optimization and achieve resonation with wave are two key parts of designing pendulum wave energy converters. The object of this paper is to study hydrodynamics of a novel floating type pendulum wave energy converter and make optimization through full 3-D simulations. We will also conduct experiment in a wave tank to verify our simulations.
We performed numerical and physical experiment with a marine monostatic electromagnetic (EM) survey system, which is developed primarily for exploration of seafloor mineral deposits. The system is a multi-frequency EM system housed to endure high pressure in deep sea up to 2000 m. To keep stable altitude of the system from the seafloor in rough seafloor topography condition, the system is connected...
Sediment transport at the Yellow river delta is affected by many different factors, including tide, waves and river flows. With the change of river exit in 1996, a new delta is rapidly growing which leads to a new sediment transport regime. Most existing computer modelling work at the site is yet to take such changes into account. In addition, the wave action at the river mouth is often ignored in...
Underwater 3D object reconstruction is one of the most essential and fundamental tasks in ocean investigations. In this paper, we try to capture the inherent geometrical variation of 3D objects at multiple visual angels with the underwater vehicles and develop a novel underwater 3D object reconstruction model for the continuous video stream. Image enhancement will be first taken into consideration...
Marine oil spill is an inevitable and undesirable consequence of producing and transporting petroleum, as well as the associated refined products. To reduce oil spill pollution, China has made many great achievements to develop adequate pollution contingency plans for several years. During the oil spill response, it is important to understand the behavior and fate of spilled oil in the forecasting...
This paper adopts guidance and control framework to address the problem of path following for an under-actuated autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) moving in three dimensional (3D) space. First, based on the error dynamics in the moving path frame, the desired pitch angle and yaw angle are designed in kinematics by 3D Line-of-Sight (LOS) guidance law. Subsequently, the desired pitch and yaw angular...
The sonar images can be applied for underwater visual inspection using autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) that requires underwater object recognition. However, the high noise and low resolution of sonar images are obstacles of object recognition. In this paper, we review a sonar image simulator-based underwater object recognition algorithm for forward-looking imaging sonar. Then, we verify the feasibility...
This paper proposes visual-based underwater vehicle docking/homing system under the environment especially simulated for deep sea trial. Instead of measuring absolute position of vehicle using other non-contact sensors, estimation of the robot's relative position and posture (pose) using dual-eyes cameras and 3D target object is proposed. For relative pose estimation, 3D model-based recognition approach...
