The design of silicon on insulator slot waveguide ring resonator couplers, traditional directional couplers and symmetric racetrack couplers are experimentally investigated by exploring coupler losses and maximum loaded Q-factors. Intrinsic Q factors up to 250,000 for 50µm radius rings are demonstrated by this approach.
