This talk will describe modified uni-traveling carrier photodiodes (MUTCs) that have achieved high RF output power and high saturation current. Discrete photodiodes, 4x1 phase matched arrays, and balanced detectors will be discussed.
The broad bandwidth and low loss-per-unit-length of photonic links make them potentially useful for the transmission of low-noise and high-frequency analog microwave signals. Such microwave-photonic links are useful in several precision radio-frequency (RF) applications including: radar antenna remoting, synchronization of distributed RF systems, and time/frequency transfer for geo-location. However,...
A simple photonic downconversion method using digital signal processing (DSP) in phase modulation link to suppress intermodulation distortion (IMD3) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The experimental results show that the IMD3 is suppressed by 17dB.
A novel technique to achieve subtraction of two optical signals based on Four Wave Mixing is presented. It utilizes the subtraction of idler wavelengths by applying a π/2 radians relative phase shift between pump wavelengths.
We describe noise limitations associated with Er:fiber-based optical frequency dividers. A low-noise Er:fiber laser combined with optimized photodetection results in 5 GHz signals having phase noise floors of −176 dBc/Hz.
In this tutorial, photonic microwave-to-digital conversion architectures and system design issues will be discussed taking full advantage of recent photonic, electronic and signal processing technologies.
