Automated end-to-end Service Level Management (SLM) is crucial to enable self-organising Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA). In this paper, we present an approach based on Organic Computing to enable automated SLM by using automated service level negotiation. The evaluation results in a simulated SOA environment are presented to show the applicability of our approach.
Recent years have seen a huge increase in the amount of publicly-available information relevant to drug discovery, including online databases of compound and bioassay information; scholarly publications linking compounds with genes, targets and diseases; and predictive models that can suggest new links between compounds, genes, targets and diseases. However, there is a lack of tools and methods to...
Our recent study discovers that humans are more sensitive to the semantic difference caused by categorization than specification. Based on this new discovery, this paper proposes a novel weighted edge approach embedding the specification levels of both words and their Least Common Ancestor (LCA) into a weighted graph distance by exponentially decreasing the weight along its specification level. Experimental...
Most of today's business processes are complex and consist of more than one party or single step procedures. In the Web, this is reflected by the existence of billions of Web sites, which may be regarded as complex processes, and on the other side only a few thousands of publicly available WSDL files that present single services. The availability of semantic descriptions of services and processes...
This paper describes an Open Linked Data backlinking service, a generic architecture component to support the discovery of useful links between items across highly connected data sets. Using Public Sector Information (PSI) currently available as Linked Data, we demonstrate that contemporary publishing practices do not adequately support the ability to navigate or automatically traverse between resources...
In this paper, we propose a novel community-based approach for web service selection where super-agents with more capabilities serve as community managers. They maintain communities and build community-based reputation for a service based on the opinions from all community members that have similar interests and judgement criteria. The community-based reputation is useful for consumer agents in selecting...
A qualitative way is desirable for web service selection according to agents' preferences on non-functional Quality of Service (QoS) attributes of services. However, it is challenging when the decision has to be made for multiple agents with preferences on attributes that may be incomplete. In this paper, we first use a qualitative graphical representation tool called CP-nets to describe preference...
Majority of the existing approaches to service composition, including the widely popular planning based techniques, are not able to automatically compose practical workflows that include complex repetitive behaviors (loops), taking into account possibility of failures and non-determinism of web service execution results. In this work, we present a learning based approach for composing task specific...
With the rapid development of XML language which has good flexibility and interoperability, more and more log files of software running information are represented in XML format, especially for Web services. Fault diagnosis by analyzing semi-structured and XML like log files is becoming an important issue in this area. For most related learning methods, there is a basic assumption that training data...
The ability to substitute a service for another is one of the features of Service-Oriented Computing (SOC). In this paper, we study the problem of degraded service substitution assuming that services have explicitly-defined interaction protocols, e.g., in the form of WS-BPEL business protocols. To this end, we characterize the behavior of interacting services by means of contracts specifying the allowed...
Within service-oriented architectures, components need to discover and interact with suitable services, which in turn can be mapped to particular subtasks. Similarly, in online social communities users may wish to discover information related to a particular interest that matches their personal preferences. These tasks are difficult when the number of available resources to select from is large, and...
Social networks can be extracted from different data about communication or common activities in organizations, companies or various Internet-based services. Different types of data processed may result in creation of separate layers in the complex multilayered social network. Analysis of neighbourhoods of network members and their utilization to social group discovery appears to be an interesting...
WITH the maturity of Web Services and Enterprise Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), new delivery and Web interaction models are now demonstrating how services can be traded outside traditional ownership and provisioning boundaries. The value of SOA comes from having an architecture that readily accommodates change. The more your business changes, the more SOA pays for itself. However, the initial...
A significant proportion of e-Learning services are delivered through Cloud Computing. These use Web services as an interface integrator to support communication across heterogeneous platforms over internet protocols. Similarly, a high level of task collaboration is needed to form an e-Learning community. Therefore, we propose an e-Learning Computational Cloud (eLC2) based on the Model-View-Controller...
Functionality-oriented service composition and quality-oriented service selection are two important phases of Web service composition. To select the optimal composition schema at the former phase and make the best composite service found at the latter phase, we propose an approach to estimate schema quality of Web service composition. The approach considers the number of Web services and the number...
