By combining CAZAC processing with nonlinearity compensation, span of performance-reliable optical modulation depth (OMD) in analog RoF is significantly enlarged and OSNR is further enlarged. This scheme reduces the requirement of related photoelectrical devices.
We propose and theoretically demonstrate the generation of optical traction of nanoparticles through nonparaxial accelerating beams. A convenient optical pulling and manipulating of nanoparticles along curved trajectory is achieved, and the method to determine the conditions of optical traction is also presented.
We experimentally evaluated the estimation accuracy of nonlinear noise models under various transmission conditions, where several different modulation formats, WDM channel configurations, and fiber launch power cases were considered. We found that the approximate EGN model has high estimation accuracy, showing good agreement with the experimental results.
A 25.78-Gbit/s × 4-ch active optical cable (AOC) with a ultra-compact form factor is proposed. The size of the proposed AOC is 5.2 cm3, which is 45-% smaller than standard form factor of a μQSFP. By utilizing a high heat-dissipation structure, the proposed AOC demonstrated 25.78-Gbit/s error-free optical transmission under all-channels (4-ch) operation at case temperature (Tc) of 70 °C.
The stochastic characteristics of a 3×3 MIMO RF channel enabled by two-mode graded index fiber are experimentally investigated in terms of Rice K-factor and condition number of channel matrix over different fiber reach. The results show that spatial multiplexing benefits from longer fiber reach despite of higher optical loss.
We investigate theoretically devices based on arrays of parallel planar waveguides inscribed with tilted Bragg gratings. We demonstrate polarization-dependent N by N+1 linear couplers. Deterministic switching can be achieved by coherent control of input beams with optimized apodization of the gratings.
We propose a novel modulation and demodulation scheme of twin-SSB suppressed carrier which achieves higher spectral efficiency and dispersion tolerance. Using the scheme, LSB and USB signal components can be completely demultiplexed by simple electrical operations without using steep optical filters.
We propose a novel pilot-carrier scheme which has SPM and phase-noise tolerant characteristics. The pilot-carrier is intensity-modulated and multiplexed with the modulated optical signal. It was clarified that the proposed scheme improves the SPM tolerance in comparison with the conventional scheme using an intensity-constant pilot-carrier.
We proposed a 3D 4×4 optical switch using vertical multimode interference (VMMI) couplers. This device can flexibly expand vertical connectable distance varying the height of the MMI coupler. We fabricated the device with a VMMI height of 10.0 μm as well as a wide band optical switching. And we measured fundamental operation and combine results.
A deployment scenarios of space division multiplexing (SDM) in metro area network is presented. Comparative studies of few-mode fiber vs. multicore fiber as well as mode division multiplexed (MDM) node architectures of supermode vs. mode-unbundling are discussed.
The intensity jitter of each line in an optical frequency comb (OFC) based on cascaded intensity and phase modulation is theoretically investigated when the phase noise due to the linewidth of the laser and the RF signal exists. The influences of the two kinds of linewidth on the stability of the OFC are verified by simulation.
Rudin-Shapiro zone plate (RSZP) based on the Rudin-Shapiro sequence was proposed. The focusing properties of the RSZP were examined both theoretically and experimentally. The RSZP was found to have a remarkable reduction of chromatic aberration compared with other aperiodic zone plates. The RSZP could be used in optical imaging.
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel channel-independent multi-band orthogonal circulant matrix transform (MB-OCT) precoding, to efficiently combat the severe frequency-selective fading induced by the limited modulation bandwidth of visible light communication (VLC). The proposed MB-OCT precoding exhibits ladder-like signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) profile, thus significant BER reduction...
A promising nonlinearity-tolerant OSNR monitoring technique based on correlation function between neighboring symbols as well as polarizations is proposed. The technique has the maximum estimation error of 1.28dB for 100-Gb/s PM-QPSK-Nyquist-WDM coherent system and is insensitive to channel launch powers and channel numbers.
In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate the performance of crosstalk mitigation for 16QAM-OFDM-carrying OAM multiplexed FSO links by using the pilot assisted Least Square (LS) algorithm. Crosstalk is introduced by demodulation holograms with random turbulent phase screen at the demodulation SLMs. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can efficiently improve the quality of constellations...
We present dual-polarization OFDM/OQAM transmission for passive optical network. The ISFA and MMSE with the full loaded and half loaded preamble structures are used to mitigate the intrinsic imaginary interference.
We propose a symbol synchronization scheme based on Gold sequences modulated on a single pilot subcarrier for the OFDMA-PON. The IMDD real-time experimental demonstrations are carried out with two ONUs and one OLT. The results show that the accurate symbol synchronization can be achieved at received optical power of −21dBm on the condition of SFO range from 0ppm to 70ppm between two ONUs.
We demonstrate the use of integrated micro-resonator based optical frequency comb sources as the basis for transversal filtering functions for microwave and radio frequency photonic filtering and advanced functions.
