A method for vicarious calibration of solar reflection channels of satellite based radiometer with a ground based measurements of refractive index and size distribution of aerosol is proposed. The method is applied to vicarious calibration of ASTER. The results show a validity of the method.
The main concerns of this paper are the effects of sub- grid convection and wet deposition on dust distribution in the atmosphere. A theoretic framework and a numerical scheme are developed for parameterization of convective dust transport. A new parameterization scheme for wet deposition arising from below cloud scavenging is also developed. The new convective dust transport scheme and wet deposition...
Phase function of relatively large non-spherical aerosol particles containing bubbles is discussed. Aerosol particles distributed around just above the ocean are likely to contain bubbles and are likely to have a relatively large particles size and a non-spherical shape. The phase function of such aerosol particles is no longer followed as the well known phase function derived from Mie scattering...
Dust storms greatly affect the environment and the resources in arid and semi-arid areas. In this paper, we study the process of an Asian dust storm in the north of China in 2005 by means of Terra and Aqua MODIS data, which could monitor dust storms both in daytime and nighttime. We use three thermal infrared (TIR), 8.5 mum, 11 mum, and 12 mum, and a tri-spectral technique presented by Ackerman (1997)...
Spectroscopy has existed for more than three centuries now. Nonetheless, significant scientific advances have been achieved. We discuss the history of spectroscopy in relation to emerging technologies and applications. Advanced focal plane arrays, optical design, and intelligent on-board logic are prime prospective technologies. Scalable approaches in pre-processing of imaging spectrometer data will...
The Sierra Nevada Mountains of California are likely to experience changes in ecosystem dynamics in coming decades as a result of multiple anthropogenic and climatic stressors. Recent advancements in remote sensing, specifically in high spatial and spectral imagery, allow for detailed, site-specific investigations of ecosystem conditions that are scalable for a comprehensive, landscape view of forest...
