A new channelized receiver based on a double column microring array (DCMA) in a single laser structure is presented. An example of a microwave photonic channelized receiver with 500MHz channelization bandwidth is presented based on a DCMA consisting of three rings on each column. Performance investigation shows that the receiver with a channel spacing of 1GHz is able to offer a crosstalk lower than −30dB. In addition, the novel DCMA structure shows better tolerance to the propagation loss in comparison with optical filters based on single column ring resonators, resulting in a lower insertion loss for optical frequency-band channelization of microwave signals.
