Model experiment is an effective method to investigate the working characteristics of electromagnetic coil launcher (EMCL). Results from the model experiment applying to the prototype study of EMCL are especially meaningful. To verify feasibility of the EMCL scaling model experimental equipment of the single-stage EMCL is set up. Measuring principles of the loop current and armature velocity are described. The loop current and armature velocity varying with time are obtained with different test methods. Experimental results match well with the scaling factor relations of the physical quantities between EMCL model and prototype. The EMCL model and prototype are also investigated by simulation. The experiment and simulation results all show that the model design conditions of the EMCL scaling model are rational.
