An adsorbent was synthesized from modified furfural residue. The properties, kinetics and thermodynamics of methylene blue from water adsorption process on modified furfural residue were studied. The adsorption isotherm indicat that the relationship between adsorbing capacity(qe) and equilibrium mass concentration(Ce) is in accordanced with the isothermal adsorption equations of Langmuir. The sorption kinetics studies show that sorption process of modified furfural residue for methylene blue was better fitted by peseudo-second -order equation; The thermodynamic parameters, Δ G0 was −9.331 kJ.mol−1∼−10.881kJ.mol−1, Δ H0 was 13.858 kJ.mol−1, Δ S0 was 0.078 kJ.mol−1.K−1, Ea was 12.615 kJ.mol−1, indicate that sorption process of modified furfural residue for methylene blue was decalescence reaction, physical adsorption. methylene blue as an adsorptive material was an effectual method. methylene blue as an adsorptive material was an effectual method. The exploitation and utilization of this furfural residue must bring obvious economic and social benefit to us.
