Taking the actual situation of the Xi'an Bell Tower as research background, 1) the three-dimensional finite element model of the bell tower-soil interaction was firstly established, based on these, the cyclic excavation process of the subway tunnel was carried out by making use of element birth-death technique and the Macro Document of ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL), and then the settlement law of the stratum around the bell tower induced by the shield tunnel excavation is obtained, of which the influence on the tower was studied; 2) on the basis of the model of the bell tower-soil-tunnel structure interaction, dynamic response regularity of the bell tower under simulated metro-induced loading is gained by means of implicit dynamic finite element analysis implemented by ABAQUS/Standard, and furthermore evaluated according to the national technical specifications. All the conclusions can provide reference for the study of the influence of the metro project on similar ancient architectures, in the hope of which would promote coordinated development between urban construction and historic buildings protection.
