Transition metal dichalcogenides MS2 (M = Mo, W, Nb, Ta) have the lamellar structures similar to graphite. They are often used as solid lubricants in high/low temperature, high load, vacuum, in which oil lubrication is failed. We have synthesized WS2 nanotubes with decomposition method using Al2O3 template. Moreover, chemical vapor transportation reaction is used to produce NbS2 nanotubes in evacuated and sealed quartz ampoules. Scanning electronic microscope (SEM), transmission electronic microscope (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) are used to characterize the obtained products. Friction tests of MS2 nanotubes are carried out on atomic friction microscope (AFM) and pin on disc tester, and it founds that they shows low friction coefficient corresponding to the powder. Finally, their tribological properties and the growth mechanism of nanotubes with different methods are discussed
