Alimentacion de Chione gnidia (Broderip & Sowerby, 1829), C. undatella (Sowerby, 1835) y C. californiensis (Broderip, 1835) (Veneridae) en la Ensenada de La Paz, BCS, Mexico (Feeding of Chione gnidia (Broderip & Sowerby, 1829), C. undatella (Sowerby, 1835) and C. californiensis (Broderip, 1835) (Veneridae) at Ensenada de La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico)
A study of the gastric contents of Chione californiensis, C. gnidia, and C. undatella was performed. C. gnidia, distributed in the muddy bottom, had a gastric content composed of 71% phytoplankton and 19% vegetal detritus. The other two species, inhabiting sandy bottoms, had only phytoplankton in their gastric ducts. The greatest correspondence was achieved by the gastric contents ofC. californiensis and C. undatella, explained by the coexistence of both species in the same habitat. BetweenC. gnidia and the former two species, gastric content similarity was lower.
