This literature review examines some of the differing views, expressed by orthopaedic nurses, on the recommended care for skeletal pin-sites. The issues raised were:To treat or not to treat pin-sites? Which solution, if any, to clean pin-sites with? What to do with pin-site crusts? Should pin-sites be covered or exposed? The potential benefits of massage? The review is not intended to be comprehensive but focuses on the author's perception of the controversial areas of practice. Recommendations for practice and further research are proposed.
