The paper is devoted to the study of a rarefied gas flow through a finite length conical pipe into vacuum. The problem is solved in the complete geometrical setup, which included not only the pipe, but also high- and low-pressure reservoirs. The analysis is based on the direct numerical solution of the Boltzmann kinetic equation with the S-model collision integral in three space dimensions. The method...
An investigation has been carried out for arsenic removal from a silver–copper ore. The copper ore was roasted in air, in nitrogen atmosphere and in vacuum at high temperature. It was found that arsenic was more easily removed in vacuum at lower temperature with shorter time. By suitably adjusting the main reaction conditions, almost 98.97% arsenic could be removed, while most of the sulfur was particularly...
The problem of rarefied gas flow into vacuum through a short circular pipe is studied numerically by solving the Boltzmann kinetic equation. Comparison of the results obtained with the exact and S-model collision integrals is presented across a large range of Knudsen numbers. Computed values of mass flow rate are also compared against the DSMC results and experimental data from existing literature.
We present a design for a precision rotary air-bearing stage that can be used as a positioning system in vacuum applications, and evaluate its performance. The rotary stage used a vacuum-compatible air bearing, direct-drive motor, and high-resolution encoder to move precisely in a vacuum. The air bearing used a differential exhaust scheme with optimally designed parameters to minimize the air leakage...
The recently discovered phenomenon of near-wall liquid film rise against gravity on an external surface of a nozzle under joint ejection with co-current gas flow into vacuum is studied experimentally for a variety of liquids and ejection regimes. It is shown that co-current gas flow parameters, pressure in surrounding space (in vacuum chamber) and physical properties of liquid (primarily saturated...
The paper is devoted to the study of a rarefied gas flow through a composite circular pipe into vacuum. The pipe is made of two cylindrical sections of different diameters. Two cases are studied: wider pipe followed by narrower pipe (converging configuration) and the narrower pipe followed by the wider (diverging configuration). The analysis is based on the direct numerical solution of the Boltzmann...
The chlorination-disproportionation of Al 4 O 4 C and Al 4 C 3 in vacuum was investigated by thermodynamic analysis and experiments using the side products of the AlCl disproportionation process of alumina, consisting of Al 4 O 4 C, Al 4 C 3 , Al 2 O 3 and C, as raw materials. It was demonstrated that the chlorinations...
