A decision support system for rapid assessment of lowland rice-based cropping alternatives in Thailand was developed to facilitate decision-making at the farm and policy levels. The system comprises a process-oriented rice model and an analytical tool for answering several what if questions. The first phase of this research involved the validation of the rice model by using data generated from both photoperiod and non-photoperiod sensitive varieties. The second phase demonstrated the use of the validated model in combination with an analytical tool to answer the what if questions.
