Herein we present the textural characterization of nano sized mesoporous γ-alumina obtained by template method using dodecylamine, and its potential application as congo red adsorbent from aqueous solution. The physical characteristics of the material were investigated using FT-IR spectroscopy, N 2 adsorption study, XRD (both wide and low angle), SEM, and TEM. Wormhole type pores of width 3–12nm were noticed in the material. Meso alumina was identified as the most efficient solid for the adsorptive removal of congo red, which was attributed to its porous texture, nano size, and abundant surface hydroxyl groups.
