An exhaustive review of the literature on the subject. Emphasis is made on the value of campimetry which may, in a high number of cases, make intraveinous contrast methods unnecessary. Where it shows deterioration, despite ophthalmoscopic improvement and maintenance of normal visual acuity, one should fear macular oedema or retinal ischaemia. In such case angiography and laser therapy are indicated.
