Bromalein, immobilized on activated charcoal under the condition optimized by Response Surface Methodology (RSM), termed as Charcoal Immobilized Bromelain (CIB), was first applied on synthetic solution of lead(II) and chromium(VI) separately and then on industrial effluent. 98.3% and 92.1% removal of lead(II) and chromium(VI) have been obtained when the solutions of lead(II) and chromium(VI) having concentration 10 mg/L in each case have been contacted separately with 0.3 g of CIB at pH 7 and 35˚C. 99.9% and 96.8% removal of lead(II) and chromium(VI) from tannery effluent have been attained using 0.4 g of CIB at its own pH at 35˚C.
