Survey estimates of pup production by the harp seal (Phoca groenlandica) population, estimates of annual pregnancy rates, and annual catch-at-age data are used to fit a two parameter age structured population model which describes trajectories of numbers at age for the period 1955 to 1994. The total population is estimated to be about 4.8 million in 1994 and to be growing at about 5% per year. The estimated replacement harvest at current population size is about 286 700 animals, exceeding the current TAC of 186 000 animals.
