Dead individuals of Chinese mussel Sinanodonta woodiana (Lea) were found in 2009 in the complex of fishponds in Spytkowice (S. Poland) in the Vistula River valley. Earlier records of this invasive alien species in Poland come mostly from heated waters. Its occurrence in fishponds indicates that it tolerates also colder waters; many aquatic ecosystems in Poland may be threatened with its invasion....
Studies on molluscs of the Krutynia River (Masurian Lakeland) carried out in 2008-2009 (July) revealed the presence of 38 species (21 species of snails and 17 species of bivalves). The number of species per site ranged from 4 (middle section) to 27 (mouth section of the river). Live specimens of the gulf wedge clam (Rangia cuneata) were for the first time found in the Polish part of the Vistula Lagoon in 2011. The species is native to the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic coast of North America. First records of its introduction in Europe were reported in 2005 from Belgium and then in 2010 from the Russian part of the Vistula Lagoon.
