In time of increasing unemployment, running a small business can be a possibility of avoiding being unemployed. However beginning and developing of a new enterprise may cause different problems and financial risk. In such a situation franchising may help to avoid somę difficulties as becoming a franchisee does not mean going into own independent business. Franchising is a form of co-operation between two legally independent entrepreneurs of which one is a franchisor (the owner of a product or service) grants a license to another (franchisee) to market the product or sernice within a defined territory using guidelines or methods established by the licensor. The decision of signing a franchising agreement should be preceded by consideration of all opportunities and threats connected with this kind of cooperation. It is particularly imporlant in Polish conditions, because something that is easy to run in well developed market economy countries, in Poland sometimes is a barrier not to overcome, for example an initial fee or a fee for the license. Despite difficulties franchising has been developing in Poland in recent years. It is expected that franchising will develop dynamically in the futurę, also in the food sector.
