The paper entitled „Űber die Kerntheorie“ published by Ettore Majorana in Zeitschrift fűr Physik in 1933 is an extraordinary work which inspired many researchers in the early stage of nuclear physics. Based on very modest experimental facts Majorana constructed a model of an atomic nucleus as a collection of nucleons: protons and neutrons interacting with each other with Van der Waals like forces. Such a nucleus is nontransparent and reveals almost constant mass distribution – properties which were confirmed in thousands of experiments in next decades and resulted in the “drop model” being in use till today,
