The scientific research of Prof. Dr. Kalinowski on the construction of Polish towns, including Radom, date back to the 1950s. His first publication:"Rozbudowa Radomia w l. 1815-1830" [The Expansion of Radom in the Years 1815-1830] and a study entitled "Studium historyczno-urbanistyczne rozwoju przestrzennego Radomia" [Historical-Town Planning Study on the Spatial Development of Radom] appeared in 1955. Both works are of fundamental significance for authors of spatial development plans and the conservation of historical objects. W. Kalinowski was also the author of several exemplary specialist studies concerning Radom such as:"Dokumentacja urbanistyczna-archeologiczna do planu szczeg˘owego zagospodarowania Starego Miasta Radomia" [Town Planning - Archeological Documentation for a Plan of a Detailed Development of the Old Town in Radom] and "Dokumentacja zabytkoznawcza do planu szczeg˘owego zagospodarowania" concerning the same part of the town. The scientific initiative of the Professor contributed to the popularisation of the town planning of Radom in world scientific literature, i. a. the collective work by E. A. Gutkind, devoted to spatial development of towns in Central-Eastern Europe. In one of the most recent important publications "Zabytki urbanistyki i architektury w Polsce. Odbudowa i konserwacja" [The Historical Monuments of Town Planning and Architecture in Poland. Reconstruction and Conservation], Radom was included as an exemplary historical city. An equally important role was played by W. Kalinowski in raising the level of the editorial work performed by the Radom Scienific Society. AS a resident of Radom in 1968-1988, he fulfilled the function of the vice-chairman of the Society (1970-1971) and chairman of the editorial board (1967-1971), issuing numerous valuable articles in "Biuletyn Kwartalny Radomskiego Towarzystwa Naukowego". Furthermore, Prof. Kalinowski took part in publications of the Society, including "Urbanistyka i architektura miasta Radomia" [The Towu Plaminng and Architeture of the Town of Radom]. The Professor was also an initiator of many scientific sessions, i. a. dealing with the conservation of towns founded by King Kazimierz the Great.
