The Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Warsaw is made up of two sections: St. Andrzej Bobola (Bobolanum) Section, and St. John the Baptist Section. The Faculty in its actual form was created by the Holy See in 1988 and its statute of the higher education institution was confirmed by the Concordat between the Holy See and the Republic of Poland (1993) and by the Agreement between the Republic of Poland and the Conference of the Polish Bishops (1999). The section St. John the Baptist is a continuation of the Academic Studium of Catholic Theology founded in 1962 after suppression of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Warsaw by the Communist Government in the early fifties and creation of the Academy of Catholic Theology (1954). The roots of Bobolanum go back to the Academy of Polock founded by the Society of Jesus and the Russian Government in 1812.
