Tree architecture is the result of morphogenetic processes at different levels of plant body organization. These phenomena are under endogenous and environmental control and also depend also the internal plant biomechanics. This paper reviews the problem of various aspects of tree architecture development with respect hormonal control and plant biomechanics. The role of morphogenetic field associated...
The purpose of the research performed in the Augustowska Primeval Forest (NE Poland) was to estimate the energy spent on preparation and transportation of energetic biomass in form of chips made of final felling residues and comparing it with an energetic output received at the power plant in nearby Białystok. Data was collected in form of working's day activity study on 18 clear−cut areas during...
Study was performed in multi−species stand located in the Świętokrzyski National Park (central Poland). Silver fir, Norway spruce and Scots pine trees that grew in a uniform habitat conditions were selected. The trees showed the differences and similarities of changes of the size of radial increment, which result from species−specific sensitivity to selected meteorological elements
Organic matter and nitrogen content was analysed in genetic horizons of Dystric Cambisols in the Kabacki Forest (Warsaw, central Poland). Particle size fractions in investigated soil indicated the following contribution in binding of organic matter: 0.1−0.02 mm – 7.6%, 0.02−0.01 mm – 13.2%, 0.01−0.005 mm – 18.8%, 0.005− −0.002 mm – 21.9% and <0.002 mm – 37.8%. Sand fractions with 1−0.1 mm particles...
In spite of the growing importance of the protective and social functions of forests, their productive function, including production of raw wood with a diversified assortment structure, is still prominent. Changes in the assortment structure depend to a large extent on tree species, habitat conditions and intensity of tending treatments. However, for the temporal organization of forest management,...
The study analyses accident rate in the Regional Directorate of the State Forests in Szczecinek (NW Poland) in the years 1990−2009. 1042 accidents occurred in the analyzed period. The frequency rate equalled to 14.75, i.e. almost 15 accidents per 1000 employees. The severity rate amounted 48.65. The analysis showed that privatization of forest works did not have significant impact on accident rates.
The study presents spatial variation in the height of a 12−year−old oak regeneration in the north−south and east−west gradients in the cut patches with a similar width (28 m) but differing in length (33−70 m), with the longer side facing east−west direction. A comparison of the cut patches with an area of 7, 11 and 16 ares showed that oaks in large patches were on average 25% higher than in small...
Mitochondrial DNA marker was applied to 10 populations of silver fir from Poland and one from Belarusia. These populations were located within and beyond the natural range of silver fir. The marker exhibited two highly conserved alleles (first – 230 bp and second – 150 bp) based on an insertion−deletion of 80 bp in the fourth intron of the mitochondrial nad5 gene. The geographical distribution of...
The need for effective management of uncertainty and incomplete information is the main factor of interest in the rough set theory and multi−use methods of analysis based on this theory, both in scientific research and in solving practical problems. Rough sets can be used for processing of both non spatial and spatial data. Five areas of application of rough set in decision−support systems in forestry...
Quantity approach of forest trees interception necessary for build mathematical formulas need to be measured in continuously controlled conditions. We developed original methodology and build all equipment for measure interception in laboratory, which allows to achieve comparable results. It was also experimentally found to what extent the prepared apparatus allows for the assumed variability of selected...
