Abstract
The landfill site for metallurgical slag and other solid waste in Krakow-Pleszow, Poland, is one of the biggest industrial landfill sites in the Malopolska region and the only site for solid waste generated in production processes in the ArcelorMittal Unit in Krakow. To comply with the European IPPC Directive and Polish regulations, the Pleszow site had to obtain an integrated permit. As waste landfilling at the site began in the 1970s, it was unable to meet current legal requirements. The process of applying for and issuing the integrated permit was difficult, complicated and time-consuming but was finally successful in March 2008.
