In the paper the results of tests on obtaining zinc coatings on B500B reinforcing steel are presented. The growth kinetics of coatings obtained in the traditional galvanizing process at the temperature of 440 and 450oC has been established. The structure of obtained coatings has been developed and the chemical composition of structural components of the coating has been established. It has been determined that the obtained coatings are continuous and that they are composed of Fe-Zn intermetallic phases and of an external layer constituting a mixture of phase η with the crystals of phase ζ. The course of growth kinetics of the coatings is close to parabolic. Moreover, it has been established that even though the contents of silicon in the tested steel fall within the Sebisty range, the steel does not show reversed temperature dependence. Temperature growth causes an increase in the coating thickness, which is not typical of steel from the Sebisty range.
