Emanuel Grim lived from 1883 to 1950. He was a Catholic priest, poet, national and socio-political activist. He was born in Karviná, Zaolzie, in a mining family. In 1904 he graduated from Polish gymnasium (middle school) in Cieszyn, where he passed the Matura exam. He studied theology in Widnawa and Wrocław. Later on he was working as a Catholic priest in many Catholic parishes in the region of Cieszyn Silesia. From 1917 to 1950, excluding a short break during the Nazi occupation, he was a parish priest in Istebna. When he could not stay in Istebna, he was hiding in Cracow and Podhale. He was an active member of Silesian Catholics Association. He got involved into Sanation camp in Polish Silesia. From 1932 to 1939 he was a member of the Silesian Voivodeship Council. He also belonged to National-Christian Union of Labour, Union of Silesian Insurgents, Union for the Defence of the Western Marches and Association of Silesian Highlanders. After the Second World War he was a member of Patriot Priests Group. His literary activity was mainly concentrated on poetry, plays and fairy tales connected with the region of Silesian Beskids. He was awarded with Gold Cross of Merit, Order of Polonia Restituta, Star and Cross on Silesian Ribbon of Merit, Cross for Silesian Uprisings and Laurel of Polish Academy of Literature.
