The paper presents the issue of geological-engineering evaluation of ability to volume changes in Mio-Pliocene clays from the area of Budy Mszczonowskie. It has been stated that these clays are characterized by a high content of clay fraction with beidellite as a dominant clay mineral. For the evaluation of expansiveness, both direct and indirect test methods are used. Expansive features, i.e. swelling pressure and swelling index, are presented in relation to initial moisture content.
