This comprehensive study analyses the interviews with public actors that were published in the 'Portrait' column of the weekly magazine 'HVG' between 1990 and 2000. Starting with the background story of how the column became a regular feature of the magazine, it also explains the reasons behind the series and the approach of the journalists in editing the column. People presented in the 'portraits' became actors of public life and media during the change of regime, thus can be regarded as creators of the new system. In spite of the fact that 'HVG', being loyal to its profile, primarily concentrated on the professional career of the interviewed, analyzing the career paths one can get a clear picture of these public actors' social and political background. In addition, the study gives a good summary of the activity, origin, place of birth, education, language skills, marital status, free-time activities of these people. The content and style of the interviews make it possible to learn about their personal opinion and in a number of cases, to give us an insight into the intimacy of their private life.
