The paper presents main reasons why we - in Poland - need to improve existing arrangements for work-family balance and to enforce new solutions in this area. From an economic point of view topics of importance are: reducing of unemployment, economic inactivity especially correlated with family reasons, and the reduction of negative trends in demography (low fertility, ageing). In Poland, family friendly solutions in employment policy exist for a long time but a compact system is missing. It is a challenge for family policy (explicite and implicite) to create a new, flexible frames for the work-family balance, conformable to the fast transformation of labour market and including various ways and means of the family life's organization.
