The current transformations within the Romany communities located in the post communist countries are often marginalized. The article presents various ways of understanding the issue of marginalization and its reference to the Romanies situation. It seems that the category of adaptation to changing social conditions is the most useful for the analysis of transformations of the Romany culture and social life of the group. In the last decades society has changed as well as the Romany's communities and culture. As a consequence the relations between the Romanies and non-Romanies i.e. the whole outside world have changed too. Above all, our (i.e. the majority's) way of thinking, talking about Romanies has been seriously transformed. The text concentrates on the two points: the transformations of mutual relations between Romanies and non-Romanies and especially on the changes of discourse relating to the Romanies.
