The contemporary sociology of literature distinguishes four research fields. One of them covers the mechanisms of literary communication. The paper deals with the question of collective recipients - literary audience of Central Pomerania after the year 2000. Literary audience is a part of a society, acting, simultaneously, as a mediator between literature and the entire society of a given place and time. A mediating link between a writer and a reader are, among others, public libraries. The structural changes, which affected the public libraries of the Koszalin and Slupsk region, find their reflection in the structure of literary audience of the region. Difficult access to books, low financial expenditures for purchase of books by library managers, high percentage of unemployment, migration of people and the economical crisis are the causes of changes affecting the literary audience of the region. Despite dwindling readership reported by some libraries, these institutions still remain the centres of culture, focus points shaping the interest of readers in their region. Joining the structures of the European Union by Poland brought about renewed interest in the literature and the authors of the region - a small homeland.
