The article is devoted to activity of Wilhelm Ostwald (1853 - 1932) as the creator and then, in a period 1887-1906, the leader of the famous school of physical chemistry in Leipzig. The phenomenon of the extraordinary scientific energy of the school has been evaluated from two different viewpoint: L. Fleck's philosophy of science and concept of Polish sociological schools of J. Gockowski and J. Szacki. Numerous factographical details regarding cooperation of W. Ostwald with an international group of graduate students were taken from little-known memoirs of J. Zawidzki, a former Polish student. In the paper, didactic methods of W. Ostwald, social life of the whole group of the scientists, as well as scientific output and expansion into American ground have been analysed. The authoress ties to elucidate that W. Ostwald's own scientific and didactic experiences allowed him later to form many sound postulates regarding reformation and re-organization of global science.
