Greek refugees from Bulgaria, who during the 1920s settled down in Greek Macedonia, brought over the ancient cult of the Anastenaria, a pagan ritual which merged the Christian holiday of St. Constantine and his mother, Helen. The presented text contains a description of the basic elements of the holiday in question, with special attention paid to the icon of the Anastenarides, traditionally described as the superior component of the cult. In this case, the iconic aspect was discussed in reference to studies dealing with the apocrypha, conducted by Prof. Wiesław Juszczak, as well as an account about similar objects in antiquity, The Apocryphal Nature of the Painting is an attempt at a new look at the icon,
