Rapid increase in wood waste prices triggered by the appearance of new, strong competitors, namely energy plants, as well as an ever growing demand for eco-fuels created a huge potential for sawmills until recently operating on the verge of profitability - that is for producers of the largest part of wood waste. An additional increase in wood waste value sold by sawmills may be obtained through the refining process. This paper includes valuation of wood waste processed into briquettes. The production cost of a unit of final product depending on the type of raw material: that is wet and dry sawdust and chips has been determined on the basis of described technological process. An agreed value of individual types of wood waste processed into briquettes has been compared with the value of unprocessed wood waste. Also a method of estimating profitability of wood waste processing in comparison with wood waste direct sales has been given through assigning the so-called border margin.
